The Buzz: Brent Crampton |
|
Jul.2004 | SLAM Omaha
(see article)
DJ Brent Crampton has been a fast rising star in Omaha's
underground electronic scene, while familiarizing music
listeners of all genres with "Deep House."
The 2002 Westside High School graduate has been spinin'
deep house and house music, with an influence of jazz,
soul and funk, for almost four years. Some influences
include Mark Farina and Derek Carter.
When not listening to electro, the 20-year-old lady killer
enjoys Post Pop Jazz from artists like John Coltrane
and Thelonious Monk.
"Deep" not only describes the music…it describes the DJ.
Crampton, the son of two teachers, is currently majoring
in religious studies and journalism at UNO.
"House music is synonymous with spirituality," Crampton
said. "There is a healing power in music, and I like
to be able to communicate that to people."
The humble lord of the underworld was maliciously sucked
in to the rave/club scene after stumbling upon a mysterious
party entitled "U Can Beats" at the Armory years ago.
"I like to express myself musically, while providing a
medium for people to release themselves," Crampton said.
"It's not just a beat with me, an ego thing or trying to
get women, it's about a lifestyle."
Brent Crampton is a part of the Musique crew. Check out
www.essentialmusique.com for a preview of his latest
album, Mix Series Volume 3, and be sure to catch his set
